Manual Accounts Overview

Manual Accounts allow you to enter the parts of your financial life that you cannot or choose not to automatically sync. Some common examples include:

  • The value of your home
  • Vehicles
  • Jewelry and other valuables
  • Deferred tax liabilities
  • Outside investment holdings
  • And more

These assets and liabilities may not be available to sync from an online account, but your personal balance sheet would be incomplete without them.

Types of Accounts

Create or Edit a Manual Account

Manual Accounts are managed using the Manage Accounts page, which you can access from the Menu or from the "Link More Accounts" button on the Home Page. Once there, scroll down to the Manual Assets / Liabilities section, where you can create and edit Manual Accounts.

Adding a new Manual Account: Click Add, then choose an asset or liability category and submit the new item's information.

If you are entering a Manual Investment Holding with a recognizable symbol, Stifel Wealth Tracker will track the market price to keep the total value of your new Manual Account updated. Otherwise, you can manually update the value at any time by returning to edit the manual account.

Tip: Add your new account to an Account Group! Check out Creating Account Groups to learn how.

Editing a Manual Account: You can change the name and other properties of your Manual Account at any time. Find the manual account on the View Manual Accounts screen, and then click on the account to expand its information. Click anywhere on the information box to begin editing.

If you change the total value of an asset or liability, the new value will apply from that point in time going forward, and the old value will become a historical value. Going forward, your Net Worth History will show a change (from the old value to the new value) on the day you made the edit.

Tracked vs. Untracked

When you add a Manual Investment Holding, Stifel Wealth Tracker will attempt to use the Symbol you provide to track the market price of your asset and keep the total value updated.

After you enter a symbol, you will know that an asset is being tracked if the following information is automatically populated:

For untracked assets and liabilities, the value will only be updated when you edit them manually.

Delete a Manual Account

You can delete a manual account by expanding it on the Manual Accounts screen and then clicking on the red garbage can. Before the account is deleted, you will have to choose whether to keep the account's historical values in your net worth history or not.

  • If you choose Save account history after deleting, then going forward, your Net Worth History will show a change on the day you removed this asset or liability.
  • If you choose NOT to save the account history, then it will be as if you never held the asset or liability.

Common Questions

Can I group my Manual Accounts together with my other accounts?

Yes. You can use custom Account Groups to manage sets of accounts (including manual accounts) that you often want to analyze together, without needing to select each one individually in the Account Selection Dropdown.

To learn more, check out Creating Account Groups.
